I am a librarian who is addicted to reading and to vast quantities of information, and I still can’t get a handle on it. I can hear all my unread post screaming to be read. Solution, my friends? Is there some 12 step program out there, do you think? I know I am not alone, so fess up.

Speaking of animals, we have a 14 month old Arabian filly. Nice disposition, but oh boy can she get herself into trouble. A few weeks ago I was struggling to unwedge her head that was stuck between a gate and a fence post. After her head popped loose, her leg tangled with some barbed wire. So now I have to drain the wound (vet’s orders). Yeah right, she has decided that I can go soak my head.

I also got to thinking about how when I start out with projects I have this Utopian view of things. Take my garden for instance. I visualize what my garden will look like – how lush it is going to be – the bushels of produce I am going to pick. Then reality strikes, as I stand jaw ajar peering at a pepper plant that was mowed down (well crunched down) to the nub by some hungry pest. Dang.

Off to take my coffee into the garden to watch the butterflies flit, the turkeys peck, and the strawberries ripen.

Recycling – believe it or not in our neck of the woods, they make it hard for you to recycle- no pick up service. I haul my recyclables 13 miles to town, where I sort the brown and clear glasses into a receptable. The plastics? They go another 8 miles where you drop off quarterly.

Clothesline – Finally got the clothesline put up last week. Hung my first laundry since 1998.

Garden – Put a garden this year so we can eat locally. And, for the first time ever there is going to be a Farmer’s Market (in Florence), so I’m pretty excited about that one. Oh bought some turkeys too.

Been reading a bunch on global warming, water shortages, and the book of all books about eating locally – Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. This book influenced my thinking so much that my friend Kieran and I wrote a song about it. Oh, that and we also entered the song in a contest to win $5,000, which is always a great incentive.
